Hyundai’s All New Nexo Sells 1,001 Units in a Month as Hydrogen SUV Sees Renewed Interest

Hyundai Motor Company’s latest hydrogen fuel cell SUV, the All New Nexo, has recorded 1,001 units sold in South Korea in just one month — a 203% jump compared to the same period last year. The result dwarfs the model’s cumulative first-half 2024 sales of 725 units and points to a sharp resurgence of consumer interest in hydrogen mobility, even as battery electric vehicles dominate the headlines.

The spike in contracts — more than 1,000 signed in early August and over 400 on peak days — reflects a strong “new model effect.” Yet questions remain over whether this momentum signals lasting traction or a short-lived surge. Hyundai insiders note that existing hydrogen adopters are driving much of the uptake, with many first-generation Nexo owners repurchasing due to enhancements in power delivery and handling.

Andhra Pradesh To Develop India's Largest Ecosystem For Green Hydrogen

Andhra Pradesh is setting up India’s largest green hydrogen ecosystem with ambitious production and cost targets. The state will invest in R&D, skilling, and startup support to boost local manufacturing. A Rs 500 crore fund will back 50 startups in the sector. The plan leverages Andhra’s solar, wind, and coastline advantages for global hydrogen exports.

The Green Hydrogen Valley proposed by the government of Andhra Pradesh aspires to become India's green hydrogen capital by 2030, promoting the country’s largest eco-system for the production of green hydrogen and its derivatives in partnership with industry and academia.

New Reactor Design Is A Gamechanger For Green Hydrogen

December 8, 2023

North America is desperate for hydrogen breakthroughs, and GH Power’s new renewable energy technology is one of the latest. The technology uses exothermic reactions with only two inputs (end of life or recycled aluminum and water) to create three extremely valuable green outputs: hydrogen, alumina (aluminum oxide), and exothermic heat.

First Hydrogen to Develop High-Power Batteries for Hydrogen Powered Fuel Cell Vehicles

December 6, 2023

First Hydrogen will own all intellectual property developed during and in relation with the partnership, which shall be used for the sole purpose of manufacturing the Battery.

The Company’s engineering team and automotive partners have determined that the new battery system being developed and designed will have greater efficiency and increased performance for its hydrogen-powered-fuel-cell-vehicles (FCEV).

Joint SOEC Development Project Signed Between Hyundai Motor Company and Nexceris

December 1, 2023

A team from HMC(KIA), led by Hyunsoo Sohn, the head of the Energy Materials Research Group at Hyundai Motor Group, visited Nexceris for the signing ceremony and project kickoff meeting on October 24, 2023.

The project plans to integrate HMC’s technologies and Nexceris’ expertise in Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC)/SOEC manufacturing along with extensive single cell testing for Solid Oxide Cells (SOCs).

Making Fuel Cells cheap enough for mainstream use: can Cobalt nanoparticles replace Platinum as catalysts?

November 28, 2023

Platinum is scarce and expensive. Tsun-Kong Sham and Ali Feizabadi at Western University describe their cutting edge research that aims to replace much of the platinum. Their cobalt-doped palladium-platinum core-shell solution is much cheaper, yet maintains the performance and durability of the original. That’s why it has the potential to revolutionise fuel cell technology, say the authors.

Honda shows fuel cell module set to power CR-V

November 28, 2023

This system will make its debut for North America in a version of the Honda CR-V—set to be Ohio-built starting in 2024. The hydrogen CR-V follows the Clarity Fuel Cell, which was introduced with the last-generation fuel-cell stack from Honda, in 2017.

Better fuel cell ion conductor reveals new science

November 21, 2023

The material is actually a ‘dual-ion conductor’, which allows both protons and oxide ions to defuse, and can “realise high total conductivity at lower temperatures and improve the performance of electro-chemical devices”, according to TItech.
